Compatible Electronics is NVLAP-accredited for multiple versions of EN 61000-6-3 and IEC 61000-6-3 — the generic emissions standard for residential, commercial, and light-industrial environments — at three Southern California locations.
EN 61000-6-3 is the generic emissions standard for residential, commercial, and light-industrial environments published by CENELEC. It sets Class B emission limits — the stricter residential-grade limits — for radiated emissions (30 MHz – 1 GHz) and conducted emissions (150 kHz – 30 MHz) for equipment intended for these environments. When no product-specific EMC standard covers emissions, EN 61000-6-3 provides the applicable requirements for CE marking under the EU EMC Directive.
EN 61000-6-3 emissions testing uses the same radiated and conducted emissions measurement methods as product-family standards, at Compatible Electronics' NVLAP-accredited OATS and semi-anechoic chambers. For immunity requirements in the same environment, see our EN 61000-6-1 generic immunity testing page. The Residential & Light Industrial Learning page and About Generic Standards provide further background.
🔎 EN 61000-6-3 vs EN 61000-6-4: EN 61000-6-3 applies to residential/commercial/light-industrial environments and uses Class B (stricter) emission limits. EN 61000-6-4 applies to industrial environments and uses Class A (less strict) limits. Class B limits are typically 6–10 dB lower than Class A. Choose the standard based on where your product will be installed and used.
| Standard | Description | Locations |
|---|---|---|
| EN 61000-6-3 (2007)+A1(2011)+AC(2012) | Generic emissions — residential, commercial and light-industrial. Current EU version with all amendments. | Newbury Park |
| EN 61000-6-3 (2007)+A1(2011) | Generic emissions — residential, commercial and light-industrial. Accepted for EU submissions. | Brea |
| EN 61000-6-3 (2007) | Generic emissions standard — base edition. Accepted for legacy and transition compliance paths. | Lake ForestBrea |
| IEC 61000-6-3 (2006-06) | International equivalent of EN 61000-6-3 — used for markets referencing IEC rather than EN standards. | Newbury Park |
EN 61000-6-3 covers emissions only. Combine with EN 61000-6-1 immunity testing for a complete generic standard CE marking package.
Products with switch-mode power supplies typically also need IEC 61000-3-2 (harmonics) and IEC 61000-3-3 (flicker) — tested in the same visit.
EN 61000-6-3 is harmonized under Directive 2014/30/EU. Test reports support the Declaration of Conformity for CE marking.
Combine with KS C / AS/NZS testing in a single campaign for Korea KC mark and Australian RCM compliance.
