Compatible Electronics is NVLAP-accredited for IEC 61010-2-010, IEC 61010-2-030, and IEC 61010-2-051 — the particular safety requirements for laboratory equipment for heating, testing and measuring circuits, and mixing and stirring at our Lake Forest facility.
The IEC 61010 standard family governs safety requirements for electrical equipment used in measurement, control, and laboratory applications. IEC 61010-1 provides the general requirements that apply to all equipment in scope. The IEC 61010-2 sub-standards provide particular requirements for specific categories of laboratory equipment — they supplement, not replace, IEC 61010-1. Equipment covered by an IEC 61010-2 sub-standard must be tested to both IEC 61010-1 and the applicable Part 2 standard.
Compatible Electronics is NVLAP-accredited for three IEC 61010-2 sub-standards at Lake Forest — all relevant to laboratory instrument and equipment manufacturers seeking CE marking under the EU Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU or safety certification for global markets. For the general IEC 61010-1 requirements, see our IEC 61010-1 testing page and IEC 61010 Measurement Equipment Safety page.
🔎 IEC 61010-2 and IEC 61010-1: IEC 61010-2 sub-standards provide additional or modified requirements for specific equipment categories. They must always be used together with IEC 61010-1 — the Part 2 sub-standard alone is not sufficient for product certification. A complete safety test program covers IEC 61010-1 general requirements plus the applicable IEC 61010-2 particular requirements for your product category.
| Standard | Description | Location |
|---|---|---|
| IEC 61010-2-010 Ed. 4 (2019) | Particular requirements for laboratory equipment for the heating of materials. Covers ovens, furnaces, hot plates, heating mantles, and similar laboratory heating equipment. Supersedes IEC 61010-2-010 (2014). | Lake Forest |
| IEC 61010-2-010 (2014) | Particular requirements for laboratory equipment for the heating of materials. Previous edition — accepted for legacy product certification paths. | Lake Forest |
| EN IEC 61010-2-010 (2020) | EU harmonised version — IEC 61010-2-010:2019. Required for CE marking under Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU for heating laboratory equipment. | Lake Forest |
| IEC 61010-2-030 Ed1.0 (2010) | Particular requirements for testing and measuring circuits. Covers equipment with voltage measuring inputs, current sensors, and other circuits connected to systems under test for measurement or calibration purposes. | Lake Forest |
| IEC 61010-2-051 Ed. 2.0 (2005) | Particular requirements for laboratory equipment for mixing and stirring. Covers magnetic stirrers, shakers, vortex mixers, homogenisers, and similar laboratory mixing equipment. | Lake Forest |
All IEC 61010-2 sub-standard testing requires IEC 61010-1 general requirements as the foundation. Both are tested together at Compatible Electronics Lake Forest.
IEC 61010-2-010 and IEC 61010-2-030 are harmonised under EU LVD 2014/35/EU. Testing at Compatible Electronics supports the Declaration of Conformity for CE marking.
Laboratory equipment also requires EMC testing under IEC 61326-1 (and applicable Part 2 sub-standards). Compatible Electronics is accredited for both safety and EMC — test both in one visit.
For the North American market, IEC 61010-1 is also the basis for UL and CSA certification. Compatible Electronics coordinates with NRTL agencies for combined global certification programmes.
