What is IEC 60730-1?

IEC 60730-1 specifies general requirements for automatic electrical controls — devices that sense conditions and respond automatically to control connected electrical equipment. It covers electromechanical controls (thermostats, pressure switches, flow switches) and electronic controls (microcontroller-based automatic controls, HVAC controllers, motor controllers).

The standard is harmonized as EN 60730-1 under the EU Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU) and applies to controls used in household appliances, HVAC systems, industrial equipment, and commercial equipment. Electronic controls require EMC immunity testing — our lab performs ESD immunity, EFT/burst immunity, surge immunity, and radiated immunity in combined visits.

💡 Class A, B, C: IEC 60730-1 categorizes controls into software classes A, B, and C based on failure mode risk — with Class C requiring the highest level of functional safety and fault detection.
