What is IMDA?

IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) oversees the development and regulation of Singapore’s infocomm and media sectors. For radio and telecommunications equipment, IMDA requires compliance with applicable technical standards and product registration before sale in Singapore. Compatible Electronics’ accredited scope covers the Short Range Device (SRD) technical specifications — the most commonly required standard for IoT, wireless, and unlicensed radio devices entering the Singapore market.

Accredited IMDA / IDA Standards

Current

IMDA TS SRD (October 2016)

  • IMDA Telecommunications Standards Advisory Committee (TSAC) Technical Specification for Short Range Devices
  • Covers Short Range Devices operating across all applicable frequency bands including 2.4 GHz spread spectrum, sub-GHz SRDs, NFC, and RFID devices
  • Accredited at Brea location
Legacy

IDA TS SRD Issue 1 Rev 7 (April 2013)

  • Technical Specification for Short Range Devices — accredited at Brea location
  • For products originally certified under IDA framework prior to IMDA transition
Legacy

IDA TS SRD Issue 1 Rev 6 (May 2011)

  • Technical Specification for Short Range Devices — accredited at Brea and Newbury Park locations
  • For products originally certified under earlier IDA framework

Note: Compatible Electronics’ Singapore accreditation covers Short Range Device (SRD) testing specifically. For other IMDA product categories (e.g., fixed telecoms equipment, broadcasting equipment), the technical standards used typically reference ETSI, CISPR, or IEC standards that are separately accredited in our scope. RF Measurements for IMDA TS SRD

Core Measurements

RF Performance

  • Conducted output power — at antenna port or antenna terminal
  • Radiated EIRP — in calibrated anechoic chamber
  • Occupied bandwidth (99% power method)
  • Spurious emissions — harmonics and out-of-band products
  • Band edge emissions compliance
  • Frequency accuracy and stability
  • Power spectral density (for spread spectrum devices)
  • Channel spacing and hopping sequence verification (for FHSS devices)

Singapore IMDA Registration Process

Step 1

Test at Accredited Laboratory

  • Test to IMDA TS SRD (October 2016) or applicable IDA/IMDA standard at Compatible Electronics
  • Obtain accredited test report with NVLAP ILAC MRA accreditation mark
  • Test report includes all RF measurement data required for IMDA review
Step 2

IMDA Registration Submission

  • Submit registration application through IMDA’s Dealer Registration or Manufacturer Registration system
  • Include accredited test report and product technical documentation
  • IMDA technical review of test report and product documentation
Step 3

Registration Approval

  • IMDA registration approval and issuance of IMDA registration number
  • Product may then be sold or imported into Singapore under IMDA registration
  • Registration number must be referenced in product documentation as required

Real-World Testing Examples

WiFi/Bluetooth Smart Home Hub — IMDA TS SRD + Global Markets

A smart home device manufacturer needed Singapore IMDA registration for a hub combining WiFi 802.11ax (2.4 GHz) and Bluetooth 5.0. Compatible Electronics performed IMDA TS SRD (October 2016) RF testing at Brea, measuring EIRP, occupied bandwidth, spurious emissions, and band edge compliance for both radios. Worst-case simultaneous operation testing confirmed both radios met SRD limits concurrently. Parallel testing to ETSI EN 300 328 V2.2.2 for CE RED marking and ANSI C63.10 for FCC Part 15C was performed in the same session — producing Singapore, EU, and US certification packages from one lab visit.

Sub-GHz IoT Sensor — IMDA TS SRD + RSS-310 + EN 300 220

An industrial IoT company needed Singapore IMDA, Canadian RSS-310, and European CE RED compliance for a sub-GHz wireless sensor operating at 868 MHz and 915 MHz. Compatible Electronics performed IMDA TS SRD testing at Brea for the Singapore market, RSS-310 testing for Canada, and ETSI EN 300 220 testing for the EU RED Declaration of Conformity. The RF measurement data from all three standard evaluations was obtained from a common set of conducted and radiated RF measurements, significantly reducing total test time across the three certification programs.

NFC Payment Module — IMDA TS SRD + FCC + ETSI EN 300 330

A payment technology manufacturer required IMDA TS SRD registration for an NFC module embedded in point-of-sale terminals for the Singapore market. Compatible Electronics performed IMDA TS SRD RF testing at Brea, measuring 13.56 MHz magnetic field strength at specified distances, harmonic emissions, and occupied bandwidth. Parallel FCC Part 15.225 and ETSI EN 300 330 V2.1.1 measurements were performed in the same session — producing Singapore IMDA, FCC, and EU RED test reports together.
