Low Voltage Directive (LVD) – At a Glance

Low Voltage Directive (LVD) Product Safety Testing

The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) (Directive 2014/35/EU) defines consistent safety requirements for electrical equipment operating within these voltage ranges:

  • 50 V to 1,000 V for alternating current (AC)

  • 75 V to 1,500 V for direct current (DC)

The directive aims to safeguard users and professionals while supporting the free movement of compliant electrical products within the EU single market. It applies to complete, ready-to-use products—not to individual components. Products that meet LVD requirements can display the CE mark, confirming conformity.
