The EU Low Voltage Directive (LVD 2014/35/EU) is the primary safety regulation for electrical equipment entering the European market. Compatible Electronics provides NVLAP-accredited (Lab Code 200527-0) safety testing to all major LVD harmonized standards at our three California locations.
The Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU is an EU legal instrument that establishes essential safety requirements for all electrical equipment operating at supply voltages between 50–1000 V AC or 75–1500 V DC. Compliance is mandatory for placing electrical products on the EU or EEA market and is demonstrated through CE marking.
The LVD requires manufacturers to test to applicable harmonized European standards (EN standards), maintain a Technical Construction File, issue an EU Declaration of Conformity, and affix the CE mark. The UK's equivalent post-Brexit regulation — UKCA marking under the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 — follows essentially the same structure.
💡 LVD + EMC Directive: Nearly all CE-marked electrical products require compliance with both the LVD (safety) and the EU EMC Directive 2014/30/EU (electromagnetic compatibility). Compatible Electronics is accredited for both — schedule EMC and safety testing together in one visit.
